A Guide to Deleting Temporary Files in Windows 10

Windows 10 is a common operating system in most PCs. Some several programs and processes play a role in the working of this particular operating system. You may also experience certain errors if you miss certain files. This will affect the functioning of your PC. The x3daudio.dll file, which is part of DirectX used to power graphics and Windows-based games, is a perfect example.

One way to fix this error is by downloading the file x3daudio1_7.dll and restore it on your PC. You can also try other options like updating your drivers, restarting your PC, and installing Microsoft DirectX’s latest version. Here is how to go about it.

Manual Deleting

To do this, follow these simple steps:

  1. Press Windows key + R and then type% temp% in the Run dialog box and hit Enter.
  2. This will open the Temp folder that contains all the temporary files.
  3. Select all the files and folders you want to delete.
  4. Delete all the selected files by clicking the delete button on the keyboard. Or, select all files and then right-click and select Delete.
  5. Your files will start to be deleted. It may take a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on the number of temporary files. Skip those that cannot be deleted or bring up an error.

Delete Automatically

It is another simple practice to carry out. Here is how to go about it:

  1. Press Windows key + I to open Windows settings and then click the System icon.
  2. Now, in the left window pane, select Storage.
  3. Connect the ON button in the storage direction.

After completing the steps above, your temporary files and files no longer needed will be automatically deleted by Windows 10 after 30 days.

Use Disk Cleaner

You can also delete temporary files using disk cleaner. Here is how to go about it.

  1. Open File Explorer by clicking on the icons available on the taskbar or by pressing Windows key + E.
  2. Click This Available PC on the left panel.
  3. A screen will open showing all available drives.
  4. Right-click on the drive where Windows 10 is installed. If you are not sure which drive Windows 10 is installed on, look for the available Windows logo next to the available drives.
  5. Click Properties.
  6. A dialog box will appear.
  7. Click the Disk Cleanup button.
  8. Click the Clean System Files button.
  9. Disk cleaning will start to calculate how much space it can free up from your Windows.
  10. Under Files to Delete, check the boxes next to the files you want to delete, such as Temporary files, Temporary Windows installation files, Recycle Bin, Windows update log files, etc.
  11. Once all the files you want to delete have been checked, click Ok and delete files.
